Parish Council

Mission and Activities

Parish Council is the representative of the Church in the administration of its affairs. It is responsible for the receipt and disbursement of all general and special funds. Parish Council has the right to promulgate and adopt by-laws for the conduct of its meetings and affairs, provided those by-laws are consistent with the constitution, and that of the Archdiocese. Parish Council holds one regular meeting on the second Monday of each month. At the end of each year, Parish Council prepares a report containing in detail all receipts and expenditures of the Church. That report is made available to all Voting members of the Parish, and filed with the Archdiocese. St. George’s current Constitution was adopted, and subsequently approved by the Antiochian Archdiocese on October 21, 1997.

Parish Council consists of twenty members, including the Parish priest. Three members are appointed by the priest. The presidents of the Myrrh Bearing Women’s Society and the Fellowship of St. John the Divine are voting members, as are the Choir Director and the Superintendent of Church School. The SOYO Advisor is a non-voting member. The rest of the members are elected on a rotating basis at the general parish meeting held each November.
